Punta Cana International

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

About The Airport

Serving the popular tourist haven of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana International Airport is the second busiest airport in the Caribbean. The terminal buildings are eco-friendly, being built in traditional Taino and Arawak style using coral stone from the beaches, tree trunk columns and palma cana thatch. It has 5 terminals in total: 3 are used for executive aviation and private planes and 2 are used as the main passenger terminals, A & B.

Free Wi-Fi is available at the airport.

The airport is 5km from Punta Cana and 37km from Higüey.

Taxi - taxis are available outside the Customs area. All taxis operate according to standard rates and will accept USD and EUR as well as Dominican pesos. You're advised to agree your destination and fare in advance.

Hotel shuttle - if you are travelling independently, a courtesy shuttle is available to and from the nearby Four Points by Sheraton at Puntacana Village. It's worth noting that most visitors to Punta Cana have prearranged shuttles through their tour operator, and are met by representatives who will take them to the vehicle. If you're in a hurry to get to the beach, consider declining the shuttle and arranging your own taxi, as this can be much quicker than waiting for the representative to gather everyone together.

Car rental you'll find around a dozen car rental firms in the Arrivals hall; some travelers report that driving in Punta Cana is not a relaxing experience.

Both long- and short-term parking lots are available, along with dedicated drop-off and pick-up points.

The 2 main passenger terminals are very close to each other and easily walkable.

There are no in-airport hotels.

Healthy Travel Tip

When it comes to jet lag, the direction of travel makes a difference. To acclimatize yourself before you go, try waking up and going to bed later than usual if you're travelling west. If you're travelling east, wake up earlier and go to bed earlier.

We do our best to keep these guides as up-to-date as possible, but cannot guarantee that they fully reflect the current state of every airport, where changes can happen frequently and without notice. Please contact us with any feedback.
