Punta Cana International
Getting to and from the airport
The airport is 5km from Punta Cana and 37km from Higüey.
Taxi - taxis are available outside the Customs area. All taxis operate according to standard rates and will accept USD and EUR as well as Dominican pesos. You're advised to agree your destination and fare in advance.
Hotel shuttle - if you are travelling independently, a courtesy shuttle is available to and from the nearby Four Points by Sheraton at Puntacana Village. It's worth noting that most visitors to Punta Cana have prearranged shuttles through their tour operator, and are met by representatives who will take them to the vehicle. If you're in a hurry to get to the beach, consider declining the shuttle and arranging your own taxi, as this can be much quicker than waiting for the representative to gather everyone together.
Car rental - you'll find around a dozen car rental firms in the Arrivals hall; some travelers report that driving in Punta Cana is not a relaxing experience.
Transit and in-airport hotels
There are no in-airport hotels.
Expect queues and a somewhat disorganised atmosphere, especially if you hit this busy and popular airport at a peak travel time.
If you'd like to use an airport porter to help you navigate the airport in double-quick time when arriving or departing, make sure you have a tip handy. $5 or so is acceptable.
