About Taipei Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport


Taipei Taiwan Taoyuan International is Taiwan's busiest and largest international airport. It is situated approximately 40 km (25 mi) west of the capital Taipei, in the Dayuan District, Taoyuan.

Commercial flights were launched in 1979, and today, Taiwan Taoyuan Airport serves around 36 million passengers and over 2.08 million tonnes of cargo per year.

The airport currently operates two terminals, T1 and T2, and is the primary entry point for tourists exploring Taipei and the northern region of the island.

Terminal 1: Plaza Premium Lounge (Zone D)

Terminal 1: espressamente illy
Open 06:00 - 23:00 daily, espressamente illy is the network of franchised "Italian-style" coffee shops. If you’re seeking true Italian coffee, this is the place to be! Passengers travelling from Terminal 2, Concourses C or D can enjoy access to espressamente illy. To access the restaurant, take the transportation Airport Skytrain to Terminal 1. Espressamente illy is located at Terminal 1, Level 3, Concourse A, near Gate A8.

Experience a taste of authentic Italian-style coffee alongside snacks and light meals, perfect as preflight appetisers.

Terminal 1: espressamente illy
For passengers travelling from Concourses C or D, the espressamente illy near Gate B7 provides the ideal spot to enjoy true, authentic Italian coffee. Open 06:00 - 23:00 daily, espressamente illy is available to passengers travelling from Terminal 2, Concourses C or D. Take the transportation Airport Skytrain to Terminal 1. Espressamente illy is located at Terminal 1, Level 3, Concourse B, near Gate B.

Terminal 1: homee KITCHEN
Open 06:00 - 20:00 daily, homee KITCHEN serves up Chinese and Western dishes, along with Taipei’s best beef noodles. Choose from a variety of set meals and local dishes renowned around the world, along with a selection of beverages. Find the homee KITCHEN at Level 3, Concourse B, near Gate B5. Passengers travelling from Terminal 2, Concourses C or D should take the transportation Airport Skytrain to Terminal 1.

Open 06:00 - 20:00 daily, homee KITCHEN is located at Level 3, Concourse A, near Gate A4. Passengers travelling from Terminal 2, Concourses C or D should take the transportation Airport Skytrain to Terminal 1.

You can find tasty Chinese and Western dishes here, including set meals, local dishes, Taipei's best beef noodles, coffee, tea, juice, and carbonated mineral water.

Terminal 2: Oriental Club Lounge
Open 07:00 - 15:00 daily, the award-winning Oriental Club Lounge is highly recommended! Recognised as Lounge of the Year in Priority Pass Excellence Awards 2024, this lounge offers a variety of amenities to suit even the most particular traveller.

Enjoy massage chairs, ready to order meals and buffet service, available until 22:30. For those looking to get a work-out in, the complimentary gym in the Oriental Club Lounge is the ideal solution. Nursing parents can take advantage of the lounge’s nursing room. Smart casual dress is required in the lounge at all times. Children under 2 are admitted for free, while guests can enjoy the facilities for a maximum of 3 hours. Located in International Departures, Level 4, Departure Hall.

Terminal 2: Plaza Premium Lounge (Zone A)
Open 07:00 - 15:00 daily, the refined Plaza Premium Lounge (Zone A) is located in International Departures, Level 4, Departure Hall. The lounge features an elegant design and provides private relaxation suites with relaxing beds and private toilets available on reservation. Shower facilities are available, but subject to payment.

Terminal 2: Plaza Premium Lounge (Zone A1)
Open 07:00 - 15:00 daily, Plaza Premium Lounge is located on the 4th floor of Terminal 2. With a range of amenities put in place to provide a comfortable and relaxing experience for passengers, this lounge is the perfect spot for freshening up before your flight. You can purchase access directly at the lounge, with rates starting at TWD 1300 for 2 hours.

Terminal 1 at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is divided into Concourses A and B and has a variety of eateries, coffee shops, and fast-food outlets.

Shoppers should head for the numerous duty-free shops and luxury brand stores to obtain impressive fashion accessories. Find amenities like ATMs, currency exchange, showers, accessible restrooms, baby care facilities, children’s play areas, medical clinics, etc.

Terminal 2, which first opened in 2000, is a significant hub managing the ever-increasing air traffic. The North Concourse has 20 gates, while the South Concourse has ten gates connected by two people mover lines for seamless inter-terminal transit. With about 30 eateries serving Taiwanese, European, Asian, and American cuisines, travellers can find a variety of food choices and cosy spots for relaxation.

Accessibility

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is located approximately 25 miles (40 kilometres) west of Taipei, Dayuan Township, and serves as the largest airport in Taiwan. You can access the airport in several ways:

By car
The Taiwan Taoyuan Intl Airport is accessible by car via major highways and roads. Take National Freeway No. 1 and merge onto National Freeway No. 2. The road leads directly to the airport. Be aware some of these routes are toll roads.

Taxis
Taipei taxis are typically yellow in colour, making them easily identified. The airport provides several public taxi ranks throughout both terminals:

  • Terminal 1: Arrivals area: First floor
  • Terminal 2: Arrivals area: First floor

Travelling by taxi from Taiwan Taoyuan Airport to Taipei city centre costs typically between NT$1,000 to NT$1,200 (~$32-$39 USD) each way.

By Uber
You can meet a pre-booked Uber driver at designated pick-up locations at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport:

By bus
A broad bus network serves Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, connecting it with various destinations in Taipei and the surrounding regions.

Airport buses operate from the airport to Taipei, Taoyuan, and other cities. Intercity buses connect Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung with the airport.

By train
Two train services connect to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport: MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and High-Speed Rail (HSR).

The Taoyuan Airport MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) links Taipei to the airport directly. The MRT has two types of services: Express and Commuter.

Express services take around 35 minutes from Taipei Main Station to the airport, while Commuter trains take around 50 minutes, due to additional stops.

Trains stop at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, with clear signage directing visitors to the check-in areas.

The Taiwan High-Speed Rail is ideal for passengers coming from cities along the western corridor of Taiwan, such as Tainan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.

From the HSR Station, take a shuttle bus or the Taoyuan Airport MRT to the airport. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the airport from the station.

Barrier-Free service
The Taiwan Taoyuan Airport operates a Barrier-Free service for passengers whose mobility is limited either by physical or mental disability (sensory or locomotion, permanent or temporary), advanced age or any cause of disability requiring special attention.

Parking
Visitors can enjoy several parking options at the Taiwan Taoyuan Airport as there are multiple public parking areas available for both short-term and long-term parking.

Travelling between terminals
A free shuttle bus service operates around the clock at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, making it convenient to travel between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. At peak hours (6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.), the shuttle runs every 10 to 15 minutes and every 30 minutes between 10 pm and 6 am.
