Accessibility
Vienna International Airport is located in Schwechat, 11 miles (18 kilometres) southeast of central Vienna. You can access the airport in several ways
By car
Vienna International Airport is well-connected to the A4 motorway, known as the "Ost Autobahn." The expressway links the airport to Vienna's city centre and other major roads, including the S1 and B9. The A4 gives travellers a direct connection to the airport, allowing a smooth and easy drive from various directions. Be aware that some routes may have tolls.
Taxis
Vienna taxis are mostly white in colour, but you can also find them in yellow, green, or blue. These taxis are identifiable and readily available at Vienna International Airport. The airport's taxi ranks are located throughout its terminals:
- Terminal 1: Arrivals area
- Terminal 1A: Arrivals area
- Terminal 2: Arrivals area
- Terminal 3: Arrivals area
It's worth mentioning that a taxi ride from Vienna International Airport to the city centre of Vienna ideally costs around €36 (~£31/$39) each way.

By bus
An extensive bus network serves Vienna International Airport.
Three express lines pick you up from various Viennese districts and connect you to the airport. The Airport Lines operate multiple routes, including VAL 1, VAL 2, and VAL 3, linking the airport to different key locations in the city.
Line VAL 1 runs 24/7 from Vienna West Station via Vienna Central Station (South Entrance) to Vienna Airport.
Line VAL 2 runs from Morzinplatz/ Schwedenplatz to Vienna Airport every 30 minutes from 03:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Line VAL 3 links Donaustadt with Vienna Airport and runs hourly between 04:58 a.m. and 07:58 p.m.
Travellers can find regional bus services such as Postbus and FlixBus, which connect surrounding towns and cities to the international airport to ensure stress-free travel access.
By train
Two train lines link to Vienna International Airport: the S7 and the CAT (City Airport Train). The S7 takes a bit longer to reach the airport, given that it's a local train that stops at multiple stations. It takes approximately 25 minutes from the city centre to Vienna Airport.
The CAT connects nonstop from Wien Mitte station to the airport, taking just 16 minutes to complete the journey. CAT runs between the airport and the city and vice versa from 5:37 a.m. to 11:38 p.m. The train service runs every 30 minutes daily and is environmentally friendly due to its emission-free traction current.
Barrier-Free service
The Vienna International Airport operates a Barrier-Free service for passengers whose mobility is limited either by physical or mental disability (sensory or locomotion, permanent or temporary), advanced age or any cause of disability requiring special attention.
