About The Airport

Home to a huge, glossy shopping mall, Kuwait International is good place for retail therapy. It's the only commercial airport serving Kuwait and within it's single terminal building, there are 3 levels and a basement.

Free Wi-Fi is available at the airport.

The airport is 15.5km south of Kuwait City.

Taxi - taxis are available in the ground transportation area, some at flat rates.

Bus - the airport is served by Kuwait Public Transport bus routes 13, 99 and 501. Buses run from 04:30 to 23:45.

Hotel shuttle - airport shuttles (some of them free) are available to nearby hotels such as the Holiday Inn and Continental Suite Farwaniya.

Car rental - about a dozen international and local car rental firms operate from the airport.

Both short and long-term parking is available. There's a multistory parking lot next to the Commercial Center, and a parking lot on street level next to Arrivals.

The single terminal building handles both arrivals and departures, so all the gates are within walking distance of each other.

The Safir Airport Hotel for travelers in transit is a 10-minute shuttle ride from the airport. It has a games room and a fitness center, with a sauna, sun deck and swimming pool.

Spring and summer dust storms are exhilarating to watch but have been known to halt flights.

Thick fog in the winter can also cause delays.

A new terminal building is currently being built, which is expected to be completed by 2022.

These plans will significantly increase the airport's passenger capacity and also make space for a transit hotel.

Healthy Travel Tip

Summer temperatures in Kuwait can rise to over 122 degrees Fahrenheit, but you'll still need a light jacket as the airport will be air-conditioned and it might be cool inside. Beware: the temperature extremes as you go between air-conditioned vehicles, buildings, and the outdoors are perfect for catching a cold.
