Shanghai Hongqiao Intl

Shanghai, China

About The Airport

Shanghai Hongqiao is closer to downtown Shanghai than Pudong International, the city's other airport. Hongqiao mainly hosts domestic and regional services, with a limited number of international flights. There are 2 terminals: Terminal 1 is only used for international flights, and is much smaller than Terminal 2.

Free Wi-Fi is available at the airport, though a Chinese mobile number is needed to receive an access code by SMS. If you haven't got a Chinese number, you can get a code from one of the machines after Security. Be aware that due to Chinese internet restrictions, you won't be able to access some international websites and services.

The airport is 13km from downtown Shanghai.

Taxi - you'll find fixed-rate taxi stands outside Arrivals at both terminals.

Bus - buses run from both terminals, though there's a wider choice of destinations from Terminal 2, including services to Shanghai railway station and Zizhu Science Park.

Train - to reach the Hongqiao Railway Station, take the metro line from either terminal; you can also walk from Terminal 2 - it takes around 15-20 minutes through an air-conditioned walkway. High-speed trains run from this station to several cities including Beijing, Nanjing and Hangzhou.

Metro - there are 2 metro stations at the airport. Terminal 1 is served by metro line 10, and Terminal 2 by metro lines 2 and 10. It takes around 40 minutes to reach central Shanghai.

Hotel shuttle - the Shanghai International Airport Hotel and the Argyle International Airport Hotel are both next to Terminal 1, and can be reached from Terminal 2 by using the free shuttle service.

Car rental - car rental services are available in Terminal 2, Arrivals Hall, Floor 1.

Parking lots are available at both terminals. The first 20 minutes of parking is free.

Free airport shuttles run between the two terminals from the bus station every 30 minutes between 06.00 and 23.00. The bus journey takes roughly 15 minutes. For travels outside of the operating hours, it's also possible to transfer via the metro.

Inside Terminal 2 you'll find the Boyue Shanghai Hongqiao Airport Hotel, which is linked by a corridor to the Check-in area.

Healthy Travel Tip

If you suffer from motion sickness, you may find using the Chinese practise of acupressure helps to alleviate your symptoms. Apply pressure to your inner forearm, specifically two thumbs away from your wrist, in between the 2 tendons. It is said that doing so will harmonize your stomach.
