About The Airport

Kolkata Airport is located in the busy Dum Dum municipality to the northeast of the city centre. It is named for a prominent leader in the Indian independence movement. The biggest hub for air traffic in the eastern part of India, and India's fastest growing airport, CCU is relatively modern, clean and well laid out. Its single, five-level terminal has separate International and Domestic halls and is known as Terminal 2.

Free Wi-Fi is available for 30 minutes. If you are using an international phone, select your country from the dropdown menu and enter the PIN displayed on your device to use the service.

The airport is 17km from downtown Kolkata.

Taxi - prepaid and metered taxis are available outside the terminal building 24/7. There are booking kiosks both inside and outside the terminal, and it's best to have Indian rupees handy to pay in cash.

Bus - buses serve a number of destinations from the airport, including Howrah, Garia, Behala and Eden City.

Train - the Kolkata Suburban Railway System serves the airport from a station by the Arrivals area. Trains sometimes leave at irregular intervals, so check the Indian Railways website before travelling.

Hotel shuttle - transfers to and from nearby hotels can usually be arranged for a fee. Majestic Suites, Howard Johnson, Holiday Inn and Ethnotel are all within a 10-minute drive and are well reviewed by travelers. The Swissotel is the closest five-star hotel.

Car rental - there's a car rental desk in Arrivals. Foreign visitors are strongly advised to hire a driver too.

Parking services are available at indoor and outdoor parking lots.

Flight connections are fairly straightforward in this single-terminal airport. The walk between International and Domestic Departures areas is only 300 meters.

There are a small number of 'retiring rooms' available for transiting travelers close to Baggage Claim; they cannot be prebooked. To book one when you are at the airport, visit the Airport Manager's office near Gate 3C on the departures level.

Healthy Travel Tip

Probiotics are a great way to ensure you enjoy good health when you travel.  If you don't already take them regularly, start a week or so before you go, and take a travel pack with you that doesn't require storage at cold temperatures.

We do our best to keep these guides as up-to-date as possible, but cannot guarantee that they fully reflect the current state of every airport, where changes can happen frequently and without notice. Please contact us with any feedback.
