London Stansted

London, United Kingdom

About The Airport

Well-connected Stansted has 1 terminal linked to 3 satellite buildings by walkways or people movers. Another building, the Advanced Passenger Vehicle (APV) building, is used only at peak times - buses take travellers there.
There is one lounge at Stansted Airport that Priority Pass Members can access: The Escape Lounge.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal for 60 minutes a day.

The airport is 48km from central London.

Taxi - there is no taxi rank at Stansted. You can book a cab at the taxi desk in Arrivals or pre-order one to pick you up. The official taxi provider at the airport, 24x7 Stansted, offers flat-rate fares.

Bus - the airport bus and coach station is opposite the terminal entrance. You can buy tickets at desks in Arrivals, at the bus and coach station or on board. There are direct services to central London and other destinations in south-east England and beyond.

Train - Stansted Airport station is directly underneath the terminal building. There are frequent trains to central London, as well as some long-distance destinations. The quickest way to central London is the Stansted Express - a direct 50-minute train service linking London Liverpool Street to the airport. It runs every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the late evening and early morning. Train tickets can be bought online, in Arrivals or at the station.

Hotel shuttle - there are shuttles to nearby hotels including the Holiday Inn Express and the Hilton London Stansted. There's usually a charge for this service.

Car rental - most car rental firms are based at the Stansted Airport Car Rental Village. Courtesy buses go there from the terminal forecourt every 10 minutes.

Stansted has long, mid and short-stay parking, with shuttle buses taking travellers to and from the terminal building. There are also two drop-off areas. You can reserve Meet and Greet valet parking on the airport website.

Because Stansted only has one terminal, transit arrangements are straightforward, but don't forget to allow time for travelling on the people movers between the main building and its satellites.

The Hampton by Hilton and Radisson Blu Hotel are both connected to the terminal by a walkway.

Healthy Travel Tip

When it comes to jet lag, the direction of travel makes a difference. To acclimatize yourself before you go, try waking up and going to bed later than usual if you're travelling west. If you're travelling east, wake up earlier and go to bed earlier.

We do our best to keep these guides as up-to-date as possible, but cannot guarantee that they fully reflect the current state of every airport, where changes can happen frequently and without notice. Please contact us with any feedback.
