Shanghai Pudong International

Shanghai, China

About The Airport

Pudong International, one of two main airports serving Shanghai, is China's busiest international hub. This huge, modern airport has 2 passenger terminals. T1 is for domestic and international flights, while T2 houses Air China and Star Alliance members.

Free Wi-Fi is available, though a Chinese mobile number is needed to receive an access code by SMS. If you haven't got a Chinese number, you can get a code from one of the machines after Security. Be aware that due to Chinese internet restrictions, you won't be able to access some international websites and services.

Pudong International Airport is around 30km from Shanghai city center.

Taxi - taxis are available outside the terminal buildings. If possible, bring the address of your destination written in Mandarin.

Bus - local bus routes provide services between Pudong Airport's terminals and various points around Shanghai city. One of these is a late-night service. Long-distance buses also operate to and from the airport.

Train - the Maglev, a high-speed 'floating' train runs between Pudong Airport and Longyang Road metro station in the Shanghai suburbs. It can go as fast as 267mph and takes about 8 minutes to reach the city center. There are trains every 15-20 minutes from 07:00 to 21:40. The airport is also served by metro line 2 (green).

Car rental - there are no car rental services at Pudong International Airport.

Four parking lots are available - the first 20 minutes are free per day and per vehicle.

Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by a free shuttle bus which runs every 10 minutes from 06:00 to midnight. There is also a passenger corridor located on Level 2F which connects the two terminals. It takes about 10 minutes to cross.

There's a hotel after Security in Terminal 2 on the 3rd floor of International Departures, where you can rent rooms by the hour. As there is little to do in Pudong Airport, it might be worth taking advantage of the Ramada Plaza's free 5-minute shuttle service. While at the hotel, guests can purchase access to the spa facilities.

Healthy Travel Tip

The airport's air-conditioning can make it very chilly, so bring layers with you to stay at a comfortable temperature.

We do our best to keep these guides as up-to-date as possible, but cannot guarantee that they fully reflect the current state of every airport, where changes can happen frequently and without notice. Please contact us with any feedback.
